Khachik Babayan is a renowned Iranian violin player.
Babayan was a student of Manoug Parikian.[1]
Armenian violinist, Khachik Babayan was born in 1956, in a musical family in Tabriz-Iran. From his very early childhood, he showed his unique talent and keen interest in music and began to take his first steps in playing the violin when he was only four. At the age of seven, he began violin studies with his first violin teacher, Mr. Zaven Yedigarian. In 1972, he entered the Tehran Conservatory of Music, where he studied with Hratch Manoukian, who is a Canadian–Armenian violin pedagogue in Toronto.
In 1974, Mr. Babayan was awarded the first place in the Iranian Violinists Competition, being offered a scholarship of musical studies in England. It was in 1975, when he began his musical studies at The Royal Academy of Music in London, England with world-renowned violin pedagogue, Professor Manoug Parikian. He graduated by passing the ARCM examination in violin performing with honors, and became an associate of The Royal College of Music in 1979.
Returning to his home land in 1980, Mr. Babayan continued his career as soloist and concertmaster of Tehran Symphony Orchestra as well as The National Radio-Television Orchestra of Iran. In 1990, he participated in the 8th “Concorso Internazionale di Violino Premio Rodolfo Lipizer” international violin competition in Gorizia, Italy and was recognized as a gifted virtuoso violinist.
In the recent years, Mr. Babayan has often appeared as a soloist with Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra (APO) and The National Chamber Orchestra of Armenia, under the baton of Maestro Loris Tjeknavorian. On numerous occasions, he has also collaborated with The Parisian Chamber Orchestra conducted by Meroujan Simonyan. He has been featured in a number of chamber concert series both as soloist and with chamber ensembles, trios, and string quartets. He is currently performing in several recitals.
On Saturday November 21 2009, Mr. Babayan accompanied by Mr. Serouj Kradjian, performed to an all sold-out audience in his Canada Tribute concert at the Glenn Gould Studio. January 30th, 2011 marks Mr. Babayan’s debut concert in USA at the First Baptist Church of Glendale, CA.
